ParkDale: The Musical

 A Note from Julie

Parkdale: The Musical came about in the middle of COVID. I was happy to be working at all, quite frankly. Our Composer, Chris Tsujiuchi, had never composed a musical before. He was a great friend and a great Music Director, but he had never composed anything, and it was awesome.

It was a 30-minute podcast musical, about the Parkdale neighborhood, in Toronto. It didn't sound like In the Heights, but the vibes were similar: funky, fresh, that neighborhood feeling, especially in the opening number. Then other musical elements came in, like gospel, hip hop, something a little more pop, and a couple of really cool contemporary ballads. It was a very cool mix of music.

The strength of the show was its strong, interesting neighborhood characters and really cool music. It definitely has the seeds of something really cool and fresh, and I hope to see it developed further!
