 A Note from Julie

This was where I got to meet my best friend, Tim Rice, and collaborate with him. He's such an iconic man and prolific artist that it was an honor to be in his presence every day: having him suggest lyrics, sit back and watch rehearsal, and then say one thing that was mind-blowing.

That was the best part: being in those intense creative meetings with the writers, Tim Rice, the Composer, the Music Supervisor, and all these high-level creatives in one office, solving massive script problems or a massive hole in the show. It was a really memorable process.

We did this one very quickly. From the invited dress to the first preview, and from the first run-through to the second before opening, the show jumped.

The movement for the Boys of '41 was World War II military movement: structured and muscular. The Hawaiian women were stylized, feminine, and soft. Those were very interesting to juxtapose. Working with Tim Rice was unbelievable. I pinched myself daily.
