Western Canada Theatre, Kamloops, BC
Persephone Theatre, Saskatoon, SK

 A Note from Julie

This was my very first fully Equity professional contract. It was probably the third or fourth show I'd ever choreographed, and everybody in it was an Equity member. I've never been more nervous in my life. I was nervous every single day I choreographed the show.

It was my first time working with the Director, Daryl, who was the kindest man, but I wanted to impress him so badly that I put a lot of pressure on myself.

Mary Poppins is giant. There's flying multiple times, and there are kids in every single scene. We had never run the show without stopping, and I remember crying in the bathroom before the first preview. Then we went into that first preview and ran it without stopping, flawless. "Step in Time" got raucous applause. It was such a good moment after such a stressful period.

While it turned out to be such a good show, this production is my gauge for whether a tech is going well. It took four hours to get through the first 10 seconds of the show. So if it takes less than four hours to get through the first 10 seconds, I know we're sailing.
